Great commercial jingles do more than sell products; they often become part of popular culture. Who hasn’t been embarrassed to find herself signing loudly in the car or spending an entire day annoyed by a jingle caught in your head?
If you’ve heard those jingles over the years and always thought you could come up with a memorable commercial jingle too, Heid Music is giving you the chance to prove yourself with the 2010 Heid Music Jingle Contest.
Bands, solo musicians -- and anyone else who feels they have something musical to offer the world -- can take a shot at writing words and music for a new Heid Music jingle. The winning jingle will be selected by Heid music and chosen for its originality, creativity, musicality and mandatory use of the Heid Music slogan “My Music, Heid Music.”
In addition to a $500 Heid Music gift certificate, the winner will have the opportunity to professionally record their jingle and they will be featured performing it in a new Heid Music television commercial that will air around Wisconsin.
Heid Music is has been involved in music and music education in Wisconsin for more than 60 years. If you or your child rented an instrument for band or orchestra, there is a good chance it come from Heid.
Today, with store locations in Appleton, Green Bay and Wisconsin Rapids, Heid is known for their work to promote and develop music in their communities. The store sponsors performances, award scholarship instruments and offer various types of music classes for all ages, from infants to seniors.
According to Todd Heid, president of Heid Music, “Our jingle contest fits well with Heid Music’s goal of supporting and encouraging area musicians. We’re excited to review all the entries. I expect it will be difficult to choose just one winner.”
The contest was the brainchild of Heid Music’s advertising agency, Insight Creative, Inc.
According to Jim von Hoff, president of Insight, “Heid Music has always made it a priority to offer opportunities to local musicians. That’s why we came up with the idea for the contest. This will give the winner the chance to have their creation professionally produced and viewed by a statewide audience.”

If so, get started now. The contest runs from Feb. 1 through March 31. Individuals and groups are eligible for the contest.
All music and words used in the jingle must be original, may not have won any other awards and cannot infringe on any intellectual property rights.
