| Diana Krall Live in Rio: Special Edition |
|
By Jane SpietzLooking for a great gift for that special someone? You need not search any further – just pick up a copy of Canadian singer/songwriter Diana Krall’s recently released 2 DVD set Live in Rio: Special Edition. The first disc features a November 2008 concert filmed in Rio de Janeiro with Krall, her band and an orchestra. Diana’s love of bossa nova, jazz and samba is is fully evident as her sultry contralto glides like silk through classics such as “Walk on By”, “The Boy From Ipanema”, “So Nice”, “S’Wonderful”, and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to His Face”. Spectacular shots of the lush beauty of Rio are intertwined with concert footage to further captivate the listener. Accompanying Krall are outstanding musicians Anthony Wilson (guitar), John Clayton (bass) and Jeff Hamilton (drums). Refreshingly unassuming during her conversational clips, she expresses deep gratitude for the unconditional support given to her by these band mates, family and others through the years. Disc 2 contains footage of the Love Your Heart Benefit Concert in Toronto, which was “an event designed to inspire and empower women to take action to help prevent heart disease and stroke.” During her introduction to the beautiful “Quiet Nights”, Diana speaks lovingly of husband Elvis Costello and their 2 ½ year old twin boys, Dexter and Frank. “I’m all verklempt,” she reveals, overcome with emotion. Also included are sessions filmed in Madrid and Lisbon, as well as an intimate rooftop jam shot in Rio. As an added bonus, this DVD collection contains promotional films of Diana masterfully performing “The Boy From Ipanema” and “Quiet Nights”, again with the magnificent landscape of Rio de Janeiro as a backdrop. Live in Rio: Special Edition will undoubtedbly become a treasured addition to the collection of Diana Krall aficionados everywhere. |
