Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of the Oshkosh Jewel Heist E-mail
July 30  1 to 5 p.m.

Calling all mystery lovers: Polish up your magnifying glasses and don’t miss your chance to solve an original mystery that brings Sherlock Holmes to downtown Oshkosh.

The Downtown BID Marketing Consortium, in partnership with the Oshkosh Public Library and Oshkosh Public Museum, presents an original Sherlock Holmes mystery. In the story, a diamond will be on display for the good citizens of Oshkosh, along with other jewels of the city, at a grand ball.  The fun begins as soon as Holmes and Watson set foot in the city.

Like any good mystery, everything is not as it seems, but rest assured that this collection of local characters is interested in providing you with a great time as you help to solve this mystery set in the 1890s.

sherlockChapters one and two of the mystery are online now at downtownoshkosh.com and oshkoshpubliclibrary.org. New chapters will be posted each week. Read the story before the event or pick up your free copy of each chapter at a participating store.

Then on July 30, from 1-5 p.m., visit participating downtown stores to pick up a map of shops offering clues that will help you solve the mystery.  After collecting your clues at the participating stores, gather at the Oshkosh Public Library to enter your solution to the mystery in a drawing for a Grand Reward valued at $500.

This event is free and family friendly, with costumed characters strolling the streets of downtown Oshkosh to set the scene for intrigue. You might even see the esteemed detective himself, Mr. Sherlock Holmes, and his partner and good friend, Dr. Watson.

There will be face painting, balloon animals, music, chances to have your picture taken posing as Sherlock, and other family fun events throughout the downtown area.

Can’t wait to get started on your summer of mystery? Don’t wait! Visit the Oshkosh Public Museum’s new exhibit, Sherlock Holmes and the Clocktower Mystery or stop by the Oshkosh Public Library to join in Sherlock Holmes book discussions, scavenger hunts, games and movies featuring the world’s most famous detective.
